Transition of Leadership

February 4, 2018 Preacher: Dan Thomson Series: Life of David

Passage: 1 Samuel 16:1–23

God has always been the King of the Jews but they want an earthly King to represent them. Saul is chosen as King but sins against God. He’s then rejected and Samuel is sent to anoint a new King: David. He’s sent to seek him out from the household of Jesse. David is a humble, shepherd who is young and unbecoming. Not the kind of King the nation would desire or expect, yet he’s exactly what they need. As Saul then laments the removal of his crown, David of all people is sent to provide relief as a great musician. God’s plans are definitely wrapped all through these circumstances and we cannot deny the significance of how God does it, who He uses and where David comes from: Bethlehem.
