Community and Revelation
Passage: Ephesians 3:1–3:13
This is one of the most profoundly sacrificial, multi-cultural and racially uniting and welcoming passages of scripture. So what’s the mystery Paul is referring to here? The mystery is that the Gentiles are FELLOW HEIRS, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel. The mystery came about from their new double union with christ and with each other as the church. In the New Testament, the Greek word means “something that is beyond natural knowledge but has been opened to us by divine revelation through the Holy Spirit.” It’s something previously undreamed of, now disclosed to believers - or an open secret. What’s amazing to the believers in Christ is blasphemous to the Jewish rulers. In view of this miracle - the togetherness of both Jew and Gentile - there is no room at all in the church for separation.
