The redemptive power of the blood of Jesus, His excellent priesthood and His faithfulness are three firm foundations for godly affection and actions. These foundations prompt Christians to draw near to God, hold fast the faith in Jesus and encourage others to do the same. The more Christians grasp the value of these foundations, the more they realize the seriousness of sin and vanity of confidence in self. Affection for and fear of God prevent Christians from lingering in sins and turning away from faith in Christ. The superior and abiding inheritance that is awaiting us in heaven stands as the fourth firm foundation established through Jesus that enables us to endure sufferings joyfully. Our joy and enduring confidence in Christ are proportional to our understanding of these foundations.
