Enemies

August 25, 2024 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Esther

Passage: Esther 9:1–19

One of the many facets of the grace of the gospel is that it makes God's enemies his sons and daughters. For those so immeasurably blessed, this ought to impact how they treat their enemies. It ought to radically change our perspective on those who hate us as we begin to see them not as simply opposing us, but as opposing God, as we once did before his mercy transformed us. This alters our interaction with the enemies of God as we see our old selves in them and the glorious potential of our new selves for them. In Esther 9:1-19 God's people are given free rein to enact vengeance on their enemies, the enemies of God, and their response is instructive for us as his church today. How we treat those who treat us well is never so revealing of our hearts as how we treat those who treat us poorly.
