Remembering
September 1, 2024 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Esther
Passage: Esther 9:20–32
There were numerous feasts and celebrations built into the Jewish year by God (see Leviticus 23) so that the people would remember him. The Sabbath was a weekly reminder and the other six feasts were seasonal, three in the spring and three in the fall, to provide markers of remembrance for God's people, rhythms built to both become part of the norm while breaking routine and calling them from the mundane to the holy. In Esther 9:20-32 Esther and Mordecai add another feast to the list, that of Purim, a time to remember the great reversal God accomplished on their behalf, saving them from destruction and displaying his goodness and greatness. May we also consistently remember God's grace to us through Christ by his Spirit, grace that transformed us from darkness into light.
