Passage: Revelation 1:9–20
This week we see a vision of the risen Christ in Revelation 1:9-20, a vision that leaves John falling at the feet of Jesus as though struck dead. Truly, Jesus is magnificent in splendour and seeing his glory is too much for any human, sinful as we are. Yet, as we saw in the opening verses, this book is a revelation about and from Jesus and so we must always ask "What does this reveal about Jesus?". Clearly, this passage reveals that Jesus is fully God and fully man, the only one worthy of all praise. As we look deeper, though, we also see that rather than remaining as though dead John is told not to fear and is instead given further revelation from Jesus, about Jesus. God, though incomparably majestic, is also warmly close to all who humble themselves and submit to him alone for salvation. Our union with Christ is a blessed truth and all the more dear to us as we see his holiness, our sinfulness, and his heart towards sinners.
