Revelation 7:1-8 is an unusual portion of scripture upon which whole incorrect belief systems are based. Who are the 144,000, what does it mean that they are sealed, why these 12, and many other questions arise from this short vision of John. These questions, although interesting to discuss, can, like so much of Revelation, distract us from the key point, which in this case is that regardless of the forces of evil arrayed against believers, regardless of their own sin and failures, those who are God's children can never be removed from his love and can never have their place taken from his family. In Christ, through the Holy Spirit, believers are eternally secure. What a promise!
