Wrath
June 1, 2025 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Revelation
Passage: Revelation 16:1–16
God's judgment of sin is seen throughout Revelation, and here, as we near the end of the book, the finality of God's punitive wrath is seen in a stark way. God's wrath is perhaps the attribute we find the least comfort in, yet for those who are no longer children of wrath, it should perhaps be one of the dearest to us. God does not emote as we do, and so his wrath is not uncontrolled rage or even a petulant tantrum, but is instead his settled disposition against sin. He is opposed to the proud and stands against unrighteousness and impenitence wherever it is found. As a twofold consolation, we can rejoice that we are no longer objects of that wrath as we simultaneously gladly give the resolution of sin to the one who will deal with it either through mercy and grace, as with us, or through just punishment. May we come to see the wrath of God as a deep solace for our weary pilgrim hearts!
