Blessed

June 22, 2025 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Summer in the Psalms

Passage: Psalm 1:1–6

In many ways this Psalm, together with Psalm 2, form the doorway to the Psalter, revealing two groups of people, two ways of believing and worshipping, two ways of living life, and two destinations. Psalm 1 begins by describing the one who is blessed by God, a statement of settled reality more than a commentary of fleeting emotion. This person enjoys a life-giving relationship with the Life-giver and is steady and stable regardless of life circumstances. In contrast, the wicked are not so but are swirled around by the whims of society, the evil one, and their own passions and desires. Without foundation and being detached from the only One who can give life, they cling to whatever is close and seems best, ever changing and refusing to submit to God, repent, and follow him. May our prayers and efforts ever be to introduce those who do not yet worship God to the only one who can satisfy their soul."
