Rejoicing

September 28, 2025 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Revelation

Passage: Revelation 19:1–5

On this Sunday, we were in Revelation 19:1–5, looking at three hallelujahs from the heavenly perspective as the world system is finally judged. This stands in stark contrast to the mourning and eulogies of the unbelievers and once again reveals the two worlds on display throughout this final revelation of Jesus Christ. As we examine the rejoicing, though, we need to answer the question as to what makes this different from the world's response to the death and destruction of the redeemed. Two realities stand out: first, what is being celebrated is not vengeance but justice, and second, God and his character are being celebrated, not the lies and deception of the evil one and his entourage. It is a uniquely Christian experience to feel deep sorrow for the wicked while simultaneously praising God for his just judgment on them (Ezekiel 18:23 & 33:11).
