Defeat
November 2, 2025 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Revelation
Passage: Revelation 20:7–10
On this Sunday, we were back in Revelation, looking at the release of Satan and his ultimate destruction in a sermon titled "Defeat". It is difficult to wrap our minds around the depth of the devil's depravity, yet if we are honest, we recognize that we were the same and left to ourselves, we would still be. Here, at the end of all things on the edge of eternity, we are faced with the uncomfortable truth that the lessons of Eden still need to be learned. In a perfect world, ruled by a perfect king and overseen by glorified saints, the human heart is still desperately wicked, and given the opportunity, even with a thousand years of bliss for comparison, will still choose themselves and their wisdom instead of submitting to Jesus. They will never worship him, and at the first sign of an opening for rebellion, they will follow Satan, who has been bound for their entire lifetimes, against the all-powerful God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe. May we always stand in awe that God took that heart from us and gave us a new one that beats for him. Without him, we really and truly are lost. Thank God for his inexpressible gift of grace!
