Passage: Revelation 21:1–8
On this Sunday, we were reintroduced to the new heavens and new earth, a concept we were promised in several places in the Old Testament (Isaiah 65:17 and 66:22) and elsewhere in the New Testament (2 Peter 3:13), but which has, in Revelation 21:1-8, become a reality. It would be difficult to think of a more hope-filled passage in the Bible — this word of God, trustworthy and true. Far from "pie in the sky by and by", this beautiful resolution to history is both a perfect future to long for and an incentive to work, with the strength God provides, to see elements of it on this side of glory. Knowing what will be encourages us to strive for that now, by God's grace and for his glory. What comfort, especially in the current state of affairs, to rest in the one who will make all things new!
