Passage: Job 2:1–10
Central to the story of Job is drilling down to the core of God's heart, Job's integrity, and Satan's desire for destruction. The scene reminds us of Job 1:6-12, but this time there are differences that help us gain more insight. First, we see the heart of God, which we knew all along but seeing it again gives us deep relief. Second, we observe the actual motives of Satan, something that his actions proved in 1:13-22, but which are now laid bare for all the see. Thirdly, we see Job's continued integrity, once again being struck by his consistency all the way through. At the soul level of the heart of every follower of Jesus Christ should be an unshakeable trust in him. If we can have faith in him for our eternity, we can certainly believe he has our good and his glory in mind every day, whatever happens. May we show our confidence in his gracious sovereignty each day, delighting in his care every hour.
