Lament
February 8, 2026 Preacher: Luke Playford Series: The Book of Job
Passage: Job 3:1–26
In Job 3, the silence is finally broken, but not with answers, repentance, or praise, but with lament. Job opens his mouth and curses the day of his birth, wishing the day he was born had never existed. He does not curse God, but he does question the purpose of his own existence. Job is overwhelmed by his suffering and longs for darkness, rest, and even death, asking why life is given to those who are in misery. This chapter shows us that biblical lament is not tidy or resolved. Job's words are raw, honest, and unresolved, and they are spoken to God. In Job 3, we are permitted to bring our deepest pain into God's presence, trusting that God can handle honest sorrow, even when hope feels out of reach.
