Passage: Job 9:1–35
On this Sunday, we examined Job 9, a response from Job to Bildad's insistence on God's justice, whereby he pleads for an opportunity to bring his case before God in court while simultaneously recognizing the impossibility of doing that. His heart desires a close relationship with God above all else, but his current perception of God has distorted his understanding of that relationship, and thus, he is wrestling. There is much we can learn from Job's struggles, and not just his journey through intense pain and suffering. Job asks big questions, questions we still discuss and debate today, and this search for answers should compel us to treat this grappling seriously, searching for biblical responses humbly, and counselling carefully and kindly.
