Wrath

May 3, 2026 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: The Book of Job

Passage: Job 16:1–22

This week, we see Job's response to Eliphaz as well as his continual cry to God. Whether he speaks or stays silent, his pain remains, so he feels compelled to keep taking his confusion and hurt to God. His friends are not only unhelpful, but they have also made his situation worse, as they pile on platitudes and accusations instead of entering into his suffering and offering truth and love. God has beaten him up, emotionally and physically, and he struggles to think that he has become an object of God's wrath when he longs to be God's servant and friend. His only hope is that he has a witness in heaven who will advocate on his behalf, and thus our hope is the same as Job's. Thanks be to God for eternal salvation through Jesus by his Spirit!
