Retribution
May 31, 2026 Preacher: Nathan Beebe Series: The Book of Job
Passage: Job 20:1–29
On this Sunday, we looked at Zophar's second speech, a diatribe dripping with disdain for Job and delighting in his desire for retribution. Retribution for how Job has spoken against him personally, the friends as a group, the ancestors and their traditions, and the character of God, which he believes Job has besmirched. As we examine his vile accusations against Job, may we remember that worse than this was placed on Jesus instead of us so that we could be forgiven and free. May that humble us and cause us to have compassion instead of contempt, kindness rather than hatred, and grace instead of judgmentalism.
