Bad Counsel
June 14, 2026 Preacher: Luke Playford Series: The Book of Job
Passage: Job 22:1–30
Have you ever been on the receiving end of bad counsel? You may not have known it at the time, but later that counsel was proven to be misguided and error-ridden. In Job 22, we have such a scenario. Eliphaz speaks to Job one final time, and his counsel to Job is full of errors and misguided applications of words that Job has never spoken and things that Job has not even done. His counsel culminates in a false promise: Eliphaz concludes by promising Job peace and restoration if he repents of his sin. Eliphaz misrepresents Job in many ways, thus providing us with an example of what kind of counsel we should avoid giving to others.
