This week, we begin our summer series in the book of 1 Peter, a letter written to Gentile Christians in modern-day Turkey who were facing persecution from all sides. Instead of their lives getting easier after being transformed by the gospel of Christ, they were plunged into pain and suffering they had not known before, and all because of their new allegiance to Jesus. It hardly seemed fair, yet Peter reminds them that they are part of a long lineage of the persecuted people of God, scattered abroad without a home, longing for their true home above while being treated like outcasts and foreigners along the way. We were never meant to feel comfortable here. We will always be misunderstood and mistreated by those who do not yet worship God, yet we rejoice because we know whose we are, and we know he will bring us all the way home.
