CHURCH COVENANT
Having been brought by divine grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to give up ourselves to Him (Eph 1:3-14), and having been baptized upon our profession of faith (Rom 6), in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit (Mt 28:16-20), we now, with His help, do solemnly and joyfully renew our covenant with each other.
We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph 4:3).
We will walk together in brotherly love (Rom 12:10), as becomes the members of a Christian Church, exercise a care and watchfulness over each other (Heb 10:23-25; 13) and faithfully admonish and entreat one another as occasion may require (Gal 6:1-2).
We shall not bring to the church a complaint against any member for personal trespass or offence until we have taken the first and second steps pointed out by Christ in Matt. 18: 15-17, endeavouring to settle all private offenses without publicity according to 1 Cor. 6: 1-8.
We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together (Heb 10:25), nor neglect to pray for ourselves and others (Col 1:3).
We will endeavour to bring up such as may at any time be under our care, in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph 6:4), and by a pure and loving example to seek the salvation of our family and friends (Rom 10:1).
We will rejoice at each others’ happiness and endeavour with tenderness and sympathy to bear each other’s burdens and sorrows (Rom 12:15).
We will seek, with God’s help, to live carefully in the world (Eph 5:15-16), denying ungodliness and worldly lusts (Titus 2:12), and remembering that, as we have been voluntarily buried by baptism and raised again from the symbolic grave (Rom 6:3-4), so there is on us a special obligation now to lead a new and holy life (2 Cor 5:17).
We will work together for the continuance of a faithful evangelical ministry in this church, as we sustain its worship (Deut 6:5), ordinances (Mt 28:16-20; 1 Cor 11:23-26), discipline (Heb 13:17; Mt 18:17), and doctrines (Titus 2:1). We will contribute regularly, according to God’s Word, to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations (Acts 2:44; 4:32).
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all (2 Cor 13:14).
Amen
