The Good Shepherd

December 17, 2023 Preacher: Luke Playford

Passage: Ezekiel 34:1–31

In the Bible, elder/pastors are seen as shepherds. God calls elders and all people in authority, to be shepherds of the people that are under their authority, and he doesn't leave us wondering what that ought to look like. The shepherd's primary calling is to feed the sheep and not only feed the sheep but to minster to the weak, wounded, and sick. In Ezekiel 34, God condemns the work of the shepherds of Israel, God's chosen people, and instead promises that another shepherd is coming that will lead, guide, feed, and minister to God's people the way a true shepherd should. In John 10, we read that this promised Good Shepherd is none other than Jesus Christ, the Righteous.
