Faithfulness

January 21, 2024 Preacher: Jeff Eastwood Series: Daniel

Passage: Daniel 6:1–28

It is difficult to consistently follow God. It is even more difficult when our circumstances are not what we want them to be and following God doesn't seem to change them. It is more difficult still when our circumstances are negative BECAUSE we are faithfully following God. Daniel, now in his 80's, has experienced all of these realities and yet one thing remains constant: he faithfully follows God. We tend to value those who make things happen, those who shine bright, and those who seem to lead us to bigger and better days. While God uses individuals in His service in that way by times, may we also value the plodders: the unseen and unsung, the unnoticed and unrewarded, those faithful servants of God who provide a steady presence and consistent model and who are often only greatly missed when they are gone. The Moravians seem to channel this spirit, so beautifully displayed by Daniel, when they said "Preach the Gospel, Die, And Be Forgotten". May that encourage us to continue to faithfully follow God in the days ahead.
