Passage: Daniel 9:24–27

This is one of the most difficult passages in Daniel, and perhaps the Old Testament. Its purpose is to provide understanding, which we usually take to mean clarity, yet there has perhaps been more inked spilled on the interpretation of Daniel 9:24-27, and 27 in particular, than many other passages of Scripture. What ought to be clear has become not only muddy but an occasion to divide amongst brothers and sisters in Christ, proving the need for the core message of the passage yet again: we are sinners in need of a Saviour. Daniel 9:24-27 is about God's full, complete, and final redemptive plan, one that holds sinners accountable and makes full atonement for transgression, not just for the sin of the nation of Israel during a particular period in time but, praise God for His amazing grace, for all sinners at all times, who but repent and trust in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Saviour.
