We start a new sermon series for the summer through the book of James. The passage for this Sunday is James 1:1-18 and the title is "Patience". James is writing to a group of Jewish Christians who are scattered throughout the known world, disconnected from their homeland and one another, and facing opposition to their faith in Jesus as the Messiah. It can feel lonely and difficult, especially when the difficulties are a result of following the truth. Although Jesus warned His followers that this would be their new reality, it can still come as an uncomfortable shock when life does not get easier because we follow God, but instead gets much harder.
