This week's passage is James 4:1-12 in which James gets to the root of the issue he addressed in 3:13-18, which is the way of foolishness instead of wisdom. Disorder, division, infighting, and all sorts of vile practices are actively working against God's character and His wisdom and are therefore to be avoided. But how do we avoid them? What is the issue at the heart of it all? The root of the problem is our hearts prioritize the things of this life over the things of God and the life to come. We desire our particular earthly pleasures more than the glory of God and the good of others and must constantly confess our sins and ask God to give us new eyes to see and new desires after Him. He has given us new hearts and we need to heed them instead of listening to the siren song of the culture around us!
