Arrogance

Passage: James 4:13–17

As we continue our study in James 4:13-17 this week we find that the author continues to press on the themes that have been previously addressed with regards to the way of wisdom instead of foolishness. When we know that God is sovereign and in total control of all of His creation it is foolish for us to act in such a way as to be God, and yet so often this is the temptation and desire of our flesh. When the world around us lives as if there is no God it can be very difficult to resist the cultural tide and live in light of the reality of a God that created us, loves us, and has a will and plan for our lives. Often, we live as practical atheists – acknowledging the reality of God but not living as if he exists and is sovereign over his creation. This is arrogance, and it is the heart attitude that James speaks into as we come to our passage this Sunday.
